HYPNOSIS is a naturally occurring trance state, where feel people feel relaxed and uninhibited and more open to suggestion. People experiencing anxieties or fears generally feel quite the opposite, i.e. tense and inhibited, so a state of hypnosis or self-hypnosis is a powerful aid to creating change. HYPNOTHERAPY is the application of hypnotic techniques in such a way as to bring about therapeutic changes. An outside influence – the Therapist – assists in activating the inner resources of a person – the Client – in order to achieve realistic goals. The problems that HYPNOTHERAPY is best placed to help fall into the following broad classes: Thoughts
and Ideas HYPNOTHERAPY can help the client to change such ideas. Phobias (Our NLP Therapy also provides many very effective ways of dealing with phobias). Feelings Whatever the problem feeling, HYPNOTHERAPY can deal with it more specifically than can a drug – and without harmful side effects. Habits HYPNOTHERAPY, using hypnotic techniques, can help to remove unwanted habits, again with a total freedom from side effects. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO HAPPEN? Perhaps the most important thing is that you can expect to feel comfortable and at ease with your Therapist. This is of particularly importance in Hypnotherapy, in which the value of the treatment is greatly enhanced when you have confidence in the practitioner. For this reason we offer you a free initial consultation. This means that you can find out more and it enables us to assess how best we can help you. We will explain the methods we would use, how many sessions may be needed and what the cost would be. If this sounds right for you, we will usually be able to start immediately, but if you wish, we can make another appointment for the first full session at a later date. You are led by means of the Hypnotherapist’s gently guiding voice, into a state where your body and mind are relaxed. To an onlooker it might seem as if you were asleep but in fact, though you will normally feel very relaxed, you will remain awake enough to be aware of what is going on. Also awake will be those parts of your mind that the Therapist is working with to induce beneficial changes. This may mean that you will be picturing, as in a daydream, the things that are being spoken of and that you may experience the associated pleasant feelings. REMEMBER that, if at any time you feel uncomfortable and want to terminate the session, then you will be perfectly capable of doing so. For all the myths that one might hear, NO ONE can be hypnotised against their wishes or involuntarily controlled. No therapist can make you change or do anything. We agree with the many scientific reseachers who believe that all hypnosis is in fact self-hypnosis and all subjects voluntarily induce their state of comfortable trance and therefore always remain in control of the situation. There is, of course, a considerable variation in most problems and there is no general rule which makes it possible to say how much improvement can be achieved and in how much time. The simpler problems can at times be overcome completely in one session – Hypnosis can be extremely effective. If the problem is more complex then we will jointly review progress from time to time. You will be fully in control of the number of sessions. In our view it is rare for any single major issue to take more than four sessions to resolve satisfactorily. If you need further explanation or have any questions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy, do not hesistate to call us.
